Nursery

Today I finally finished the paintings for what I originally thought was a guest room. Turns out that in 6 months or so it will be a nursery! I enjoyed doing this one for my friends Holly and Eric and I'll post better photos once the room has been decorated. The lettering took forever, it was a lot harder than I expected but the pictures were fun. The lyrics are from a John Denver song and the room was just supposed to have a "lodge feel".

Bumblebee

Today we went for a little hike down to Deer Lick cave. Apparently the cave walls are salty from some prehistoric sea that used to cover Ohio and the deer like to lick the rocks. I opted not to find out for myself. Lots of fall wildflowers are in bloom and huge fuzzy bumblebees were everywhere. Once I convinced Dominic that the bees wouldn't hurt him, we were able to sit very still in a big flower patch and watch them work. He was mesmerized and I must admit it was pretty cool. When we got home he asked if I could paint a bee, and specified that the flowers had to be pink.

Red Flowers

No story behind this one, it's a beautiful day today but I'm painting my bedroom. I really should be outdoors. Most normal people re-decorate in spring.

Goldenrod

Autumn in Ohio means lots and lots of goldenrod. You can see it everywhere, near highways, in the woods, in yards. This is just the best time of year, not too cold for hiking and everything is changing colors.

What I learned from this painting: if you are happy with the background, stop messing with it. I have a very bad habit of wanting to "fix" it, just a little. Then a little more. I need a "pause" button I think.

Aqua Drops

Last week was our first ever visit to Las Vegas and I wanted to do something that symbolized our trip. The one thing that really stands out to me was the water. Everywhere you look there is a water feature in every shade of blue imaginable: fountains, waterfalls, dolphins shooting water from their noses, mermaids, creepy fish-horse creatures, pirate ships. It seems just a little ironic in the middle of the desert. So to me, Las Vegas is all about hydration.

Jade Salamander and Berry Salamander

I painted these 2 little salamanders for the girls who used to live next door as a birthday present. They enjoyed searching for animals and bugs in the ravine behind our houses. They especially liked showing me the spiders they found...I am terrified of bugs!

Fuchsia Flowers

It's been a few days since I posted anything, but I've been painting my guest room instead. Fun. I enjoyed painting the daisies a few days ago so I think I'll explore this style for a little while and see if anything worthwhile develops.

Daisies in a Pitcher

Today my husband took a vacation day (it's his birthday) so after taking our son to daycare we went and had massages at Lakewood Massotherapy, stopped by a coffee shop, and visited Local Girl art gallery, which I had heard about but never seen (loved it).

Then, far more relaxed, we picked up the boy and went for a walk down by the canal where we watched a beaver building a dam.

Next was pizza from Antonio's, a nice fire out on the deck, blackberry pie with ice cream and then, last but not least, I got to paint today's picture. All in all a stellar day!

Back to the painting, while we were cruising around Lakewood I spotted a law firm that had, as an apparent afterthought, put a little ceramic pitcher with some daisies in their front window. I guess it was supposed to make them look friendly or something. I just liked the daisies.
